The best way to explore it is on the preserved parts of the Via Sancti Goaris. The town was known as Sancti Goaris in the oldest surviving documents, named after St. Goar, a monk from Aquitaine (southwest France) who settled in what is now St. Goar around 530. The Via Sancti Goaris follows the traces of the city's history to many attractive points in the city. With the help of pictures and historical documents on information boards, history is brought back to life. Visitors can also explore other highlights of St. Goar on their own during a tour of the town.
