After extensive renovations, the castle museum reopens its doors on Easter Sunday at 2 pm. Freshly painted, combined with a new lighting system and a newly designed museum tour, visitors are now guided through the fascinating history of Rheinfels Castle. On the opening day, visitors can expect a special supporting program with food and drink. The musical accompaniment will be provided by the renowned guitarist Volker Höh with music from various centuries.

Museum brings the history of Rheinfels Castle to life

Rheinfels Castle in St. Goar was built in the 13th century. Over the centuries, it has served as a residence for noblemen, a prison and a garrison town. The historical museum presents the history of the castle and its inhabitants in an interactive and vivid way. It comprises several exhibition rooms that deal with various aspects of the castle’s history. Some of the highlights of the museum are the originally preserved rooms such as the kitchen, the knights’ hall and the chapel, as well as the impressive view of the Rhine from the battlements of the castle.

A special highlight of the museum is the permanent exhibition “Life at the castle”. It provides an insight into the everyday life of the castle’s inhabitants in the Middle Ages. Visitors can find out how the inhabitants of the castle lived, worked and entertained themselves and what challenges they must have faced. There is also an exhibition on the history of the fortifications and the military use of the castle over the centuries.

Numerous events for all age groups

The museum also offers numerous events such as guided tours, lectures and workshops for visitors of all ages. There are also special programs for school groups and families. These events offer a great opportunity to learn more about the history and culture of the castle and to experience the atmosphere of the Middle Ages at first hand. This makes the museum at Rheinfels Castle an unforgettable experience for visitors interested in the history and culture of one of the most important castles on the Middle Rhine.
